Bethlehem Township Volunteer Fire Company

Volunteer & EMS Careers

Bethlehem Township volunteer firefighters pride themselves on excellence and serving the community of Bethlehem Township. Founded in 1946, BTVFC operates modern apparatus and a contemporary station with live-in quarters, kitchen facilities, showers, meeting areas, training rooms, and recreational space.

More than 50 active members respond to about 1,100 fire calls a year, providing fire suppression, vehicle rescue, water rescue, technical rescue, and search and rescue services.

Membership Pathways

Junior members can join starting at age 14 with no prior experience required, transition to active adult status at 18, and reach life member standing after 15 years of service. Training sessions are held every Monday evening.

How to Join

Active members are 18 or older. Applicants also complete a Pennsylvania State Police criminal background check and a Pennsylvania child abuse clearance, plus FBI fingerprinting where required. The membership committee walks new applicants through this process.

Junior members are 14 up to active age. Junior applicants need a signed parental consent form and current working papers, and must be at least 16 to run EMS calls. Junior members don’t pay an application fee.

  1. Fill out the online Firefighter Application. It goes straight to the membership committee.
  2. Junior applicants also complete the Parental Consent Form (PDF) and email it to info@btvfc.org, or drop it off at the station at 1919 8th Street.
  3. The membership committee reviews your application. Applicants who meet the company’s requirements are brought to the general body for a membership vote on the first Friday of the month. You must be present at that meeting to be voted on.

Can’t apply online? You can print a paper application (PDF) instead, then email it to info@btvfc.org or drop it off at the station.
